Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga
I am in love with stand up paddle board. I am also in love with yoga. Mixing the two of them together seemed like the perfect blend of zen and strength, focus and concentration, seems like a few other people had this idea as well. I did training in Chestermere near Calgary with Harmony Dawn this summer. It was a great chance to not only learn Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga but to also really fine tune my paddle technique for more efficiency. The training was on a beautiful lake, the weather was rainy and Calgary was just starting to flood. It was unbelievable to watch the news during our breaks and see the water rising. I had a real sense of how uncertain life can be, how much we are at the mercy of nature. As we watched the state of emergency rise , I felt such a close bond with my fellow classmates. I have the chance to meet the most amazing people (this seems to happen often on yoga retreats and trainings) and love that through social media we can connect more and more to like minded souls, even if it is in the ethers sometimes. I believe this is the essence of yoga, to build healthy relationships, to build community, and to evolve together. Another important aspect of yoga is leelah (divine sport or play) so I am teaching SUP Yoga on August 22nd and September 19th at 4:30p and 6p. Someone asked if I could guarantee that they would not fall in, although I don’t plan to have people fall in Wascana Lake, myself included, I replied “There are no guarantees in life and SUP Yoga”
